70:1سَأَلَSaʹalaAskedسَآئِلُۢsaaʹiluma questionerبِعَذَابٖbiʻAẓaabiñwabout a punishmentوَاقِعٖwaaq̣iʻ―bound to happen١
70:2لِّلۡكَٰفِرِينَLil-kaafireenaTo the disbelieversلَيۡسَlaysanotلَهُۥlahooof itدَافِعٞdaafiʻ,―any preventer٢
70:4تَعۡرُجُTaʻrujulAscendٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُmalaaaʹikatuthe Angelsوَٱلرُّوحُwar-Rooḥuand the Spiritإِلَيۡهِʹilayhito HimفِيfeeinيَوۡمٖYawmiña Dayكَانَkaana[is]مِقۡدَارُهُۥmiq̣daaruhooits measureخَمۡسِينَkhamseena(is) fiftyأَلۡفَʹalfathousandسَنَةٖsanah:year(s)٤
70:8يَوۡمَYawma(The) Day تَكُونُtakoonuswill beٱلسَّمَآءُsamaaaʹuthe skyكَٱلۡمُهۡلِkalmuhl,like molten copper٨
70:10وَلَاWa-laaAnd notيَسۡـَٔلُyasʹaluwill askحَمِيمٌḥameemuna friendحَمِيمٗاḥameemaa,(about) a friend١٠
70:11يُبَصَّرُونَهُمۡۚYubaṣṣaroonahum,:They will be made to see each otherيَوَدُّyawaddulWould wishٱلۡمُجۡرِمُmujrimuthe criminalلَوۡlawifيَفۡتَدِيyaftadeehe (could be) ransomedمِنۡminfromعَذَابِʻAẓaabi(the) punishmentيَوۡمِئِذِۭYawmiʹiẓim(of) that Dayبِبَنِيهِbibaneeh,by his children١١
70:13وَفَصِيلَتِهِWa-faṣeelatihilAnd his nearest kindredٱلَّتِيlateewhoتُـٔۡوِيهِtuʹweeh,sheltered him١٣
70:14وَمَنWa-mañAnd whoeverفِيfil(is) onٱلۡأَرۡضِʹarḍithe earthجَمِيعٗاjameeʻañallثُمَّs̤ummathenيُنجِيهِyuñjeeh:it (could) save him١٤
70:17تَدۡعُواْTadʻooInvitingمَنۡman(him) whoأَدۡبَرَʹadbaraturned his backوَتَوَلَّىٰwa-tawallaa,and went away١٧
70:19۞إِنَّʹInnalIndeedٱلۡإِنسَٰنَʹiñsaanathe manخُلِقَkhuliq̣awas createdهَلُوعًاhalooʻaa;―anxious ١٩
70:21وَإِذَاWa-ʹiẓaaAnd whenمَسَّهُmassahultouches himٱلۡخَيۡرُkhayruthe goodمَنُوعًاmanooʻaa;―withholding٢١
70:23ٱلَّذِينَʹAllaẓeenaThose whoهُمۡhum[they]عَلَىٰʻalaaatصَلَاتِهِمۡṢalaatihimtheir prayerدَآئِمُونَdaaaʹimoon;(are) constant٢٣
70:24وَٱلَّذِينَWallaẓeenaAnd those whoفِيٓfeeeinأَمۡوَٰلِهِمۡʹamwaalihimtheir wealthحَقّٞḥaq̣q̣um(is) a rightمَّعۡلُومٞmaʻloomknown٢٤
70:26وَٱلَّذِينَWallaẓeenaAnd those whoيُصَدِّقُونَyuṣaddiq̣oonaaccept (the) truthبِيَوۡمِbi-Yawmid(of the) DayٱلدِّينِDeen;(of) the Judgment٢٦
70:27وَٱلَّذِينَWallaẓeenaAnd those whoهُمhum[they]مِّنۡminofعَذَابِʻazaabi(the) punishmentرَبِّهِمRabbihim(of) their Lordمُّشۡفِقُونَmushfiq̣oon,―(are) fearful ٢٧
70:28إِنَّʹInnaIndeedعَذَابَʻaẓaaba(the) punishmentرَبِّهِمۡRabbihim(of) your Lordغَيۡرُg̣ayru(is) notمَأۡمُونٖmaʹ-moon;―to be felt secure (of) ٢٨
70:29وَٱلَّذِينَWallaẓeenaAnd those whoهُمۡhum[they]لِفُرُوجِهِمۡlifuroojihimtheir modestyحَٰفِظُونَḥaafiz̤̣oon,(are) guardians٢٩
70:30إِلَّاʹIllaaExceptعَلَىٰٓʻalaaafromأَزۡوَٰجِهِمۡʹazwaajihimtheir spousesأَوۡʹaworمَاmaa-whatمَلَكَتۡmalakatthey possessأَيۡمَٰنُهُمۡʹaymaanuhumrightfullyفَإِنَّهُمۡfaʹinnahumthen indeed theyغَيۡرُg̣ayru(are) notمَلُومِينَmaloomeen,blameworthy٣٠
70:31فَمَنِFamanibBut whoeverٱبۡتَغَىٰtag̣aaseeksوَرَآءَwaraaaʹabeyondذَٰلِكَẓaalikathatفَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَfaʹulaaaʹikathen thoseهُمُhumul[they]ٱلۡعَادُونَʻaadoon;―(are) the transgressors ٣١
70:32وَٱلَّذِينَWallaẓeenaAnd those whoهُمۡhum[they]لِأَمَٰنَٰتِهِمۡliʹamaanaatihimof their trustsوَعَهۡدِهِمۡwa-ʻahdihimand their promiseرَٰعُونَraaʻoon.(are) observers٣٢
70:33وَٱلَّذِينَWallaẓeenaAnd those whoهُمhum̃[they]بِشَهَٰدَٰتِهِمۡbishahaadaatihimin their testimoniesقَآئِمُونَq̣aaaʹimoon;stand firm٣٣
70:34وَٱلَّذِينَWallaẓeenaAnd those whoهُمۡhum[they]عَلَىٰʻalaaonصَلَاتِهِمۡṢalaatihimtheir prayerيُحَافِظُونَyuḥaafiz̤̣oon;―keep a guard ٣٤
70:35أُوْلَٰٓئِكَʹUlaaaʹikaThoseفِيfee(will be) inجَنَّٰتٖJannaatimGardensمُّكۡرَمُونَmukramoon.honored٣٥
70:36فَمَالِFamaaSo what is withٱلَّذِينَlil-laẓeenathose whoكَفَرُواْkafaroodisbelieveقِبَلَكَq̣ibalakabefore youمُهۡطِعِينَmuhṭiʻeen―(they) hasten٣٦
70:37عَنِʻAnilOnٱلۡيَمِينِyameenithe rightوَعَنِwa-ʻanishand onٱلشِّمَالِshimaalithe leftعِزِينَʻizeen?(in) separate groups٣٧
70:38أَيَطۡمَعُʹAyaṭmaʻuDoes longكُلُّkullumeveryٱمۡرِيٕٖriʹimpersonمِّنۡهُمۡminhumamong themأَنʹañythatيُدۡخَلَyudkhalahe entersجَنَّةَJannataa GardenنَعِيمٖNaʻeem?(of) Delight٣٨
70:39كـَلَّآۖKallaa!By no meansإِنَّاʹInnaaIndeed Weخَلَقۡنَٰهُمkhalaq̣naahum[We] have created themمِّمَّاmimmaafrom whatيَعۡلَمُونَyaʻlamoon!they know٣٩
70:40فَلَآFalaaaBut nayأُقۡسِمُʹuq̣simuI swearبِرَبِّbi-Rabbilby (the) LordٱلۡمَشَٰرِقِMashaariq̣i(of) the risingsوَٱلۡمَغَٰرِبِwal-Mag̣aaribiand the settingsإِنَّاʹinnaathat Weلَقَٰدِرُونَla-Q̣aadiroon.(are) surely Able٤٠
70:41عَلَىٰٓʻAlaaa[On]أَنʹantoنُّبَدِّلَnubaddila[We] replaceخَيۡرٗاkhayram(with) betterمِّنۡهُمۡminhumthan themوَمَاwa-maaand notنَحۡنُNaḥnuWeبِمَسۡبُوقِينَbimasbooq̣een.(are) to be outrun٤١
70:42فَذَرۡهُمۡFaẓarhumSo leave themيَخُوضُواْyakhooḍoo(to) converse vainlyوَيَلۡعَبُواْwa-yalʻabooand amuse themselvesحَتَّىٰḥattaauntilيُلَٰقُواْyulaaq̣oothey meetيَوۡمَهُمُYawmahumultheir Dayٱلَّذِيlaẓeewhichيُوعَدُونَyooʻadoon!they are promised٤٢
70:43يَوۡمَYawma(The) Dayيَخۡرُجُونَyakhrujoonathey will come outمِنَminalfromٱلۡأَجۡدَاثِʹajdaas̤ithe gravesسِرَاعٗاsiraaʻañrapidlyكَأَنَّهُمۡkaʹannahumas if they (were)إِلَىٰʹilaatoنُصُبٖnuṣubiñya goalيُوفِضُونَyoofiḍoon,―hastening٤٣
70:44خَٰشِعَةًKhaashiʻatanHumbledأَبۡصَٰرُهُمۡʹabṣaaruhumtheir eyesightsتَرۡهَقُهُمۡtarhaq̣uhumwill cover themذِلَّةٞۚẓillah!humiliationذَٰلِكَẒaalikalThatٱلۡيَوۡمُYawmul(is) the Dayٱلَّذِيlaẓeewhichكَانُواْkaanoothey wereيُوعَدُونَyooʻadoon!promised٤٤
