12:1الٓرۚAlif-Laaam-Raa.Alif Laam RaتِلۡكَTilkaTheseءَايَٰتُʹAayaatul(are the) Versesٱلۡكِتَٰبِkitaabil(of) the BookٱلۡمُبِينِMubeen.[the] clear١
12:2إِنَّآʹInnaaaIndeed WeأَنزَلۡنَٰهُʹañzalnaahuWe have sent it downقُرۡءَٰنًاQ̣urʹaanan(as) a Quran in ArabicعَرَبِيّٗاʻArabiyyal(as) a Quran in Arabicلَّعَلَّكُمۡlaʻallakumso that you mayتَعۡقِلُونَtaʻq̣iloon.understand٢
12:3نَحۡنُNaḥnuWeنَقُصُّnaq̣uṣṣurelateعَلَيۡكَʻalaykato youأَحۡسَنَʹaḥsanalthe bestٱلۡقَصَصِq̣aṣaṣiof the narrationsبِمَآbimaaain whatأَوۡحَيۡنَآʹawḥaynaaaWe have revealedإِلَيۡكَʹilaykato youهَٰذَاhaaẓal(of) thisٱلۡقُرۡءَانَQ̣urʹaan:the Quranوَإِنwa-ʹiñalthoughكُنتَkuñtayou wereمِنmiñbefore itقَبۡلِهِۦq̣abliheebefore itلَمِنَlaminalsurely amongٱلۡغَٰفِلِينَg̣aafileen.the unaware٣
12:4إِذۡʹIẓWhenقَالَq̣aalasaidيُوسُفُYoosufuYusufلِأَبِيهِliʹabeehito his fatherيَٰٓأَبَتِyaaaʹabatiO my fatherإِنِّيʹinneeIndeed IرَأَيۡتُraʹaytuI sawأَحَدَʹaḥadaelevenعَشَرَʻasharaelevenكَوۡكَبٗاkawkabañwstarsوَٱلشَّمۡسَwashshamsaand the sunوَٱلۡقَمَرَwalq̣amaraand the moonرَأَيۡتُهُمۡraʹaytuhumI saw themلِيleeto meسَٰجِدِينَsaajideen.prostrating٤
12:5قَالَQ̣aalaHe saidيَٰبُنَيَّyaa-bunayyaO my sonلَاlaa-(Do) notتَقۡصُصۡtaq̣ṣuṣrelateرُءۡيَاكَruʹyaakayour visionعَلَىٰٓʻalaaatoإِخۡوَتِكَʹikhwatikayour brothersفَيَكِيدُواْfayakeedoolest they planلَكَlakaagainst youكَيۡدًاۖkaydaa!a plotإِنَّʹInnashIndeedٱلشَّيۡطَٰنَshayṭaanathe Shaitaanلِلۡإِنسَٰنِlil-ʹiñsaani(is) to manعَدُوّٞʻaduwwuman enemyمُّبِينٞmubeen!open٥
12:6وَكَذَٰلِكَWa-kaẓaalikaAnd thusيَجۡتَبِيكَyajtabeekawill choose youرَبُّكَRabbukayour Lordوَيُعَلِّمُكَwa-yuʻallimukaand will teach youمِنmiñofتَأۡوِيلِtaʹweelil(the) interpretationٱلۡأَحَادِيثِʹaḥaadees̤i(of) the narrativesوَيُتِمُّwa-yutimmuand completeنِعۡمَتَهُۥniʻmatahooHis Favorعَلَيۡكَʻalaykaon youوَعَلَىٰٓwa-ʻalaaaand onءَالِʹaali(the) familyيَعۡقُوبَYaʻq̣ooba(of) YaqubكَمَآkamaaaasأَتَمَّهَاʹatammahaaHe completed itعَلَىٰٓʻalaaaonأَبَوَيۡكَʹabawaykayour two forefathersمِنmiñbefore قَبۡلُq̣ablubefore إِبۡرَٰهِيمَʹIbraaheemaIbrahimوَإِسۡحَٰقَۚwa-ʹisḥaaq̣!and IsaacإِنَّʹInnaIndeedرَبَّكَRabbakayour LordعَلِيمٌʻAleemun(is) All-KnowerحَكِيمٞḤakeem.All-Wise٦
12:7۞لَّقَدۡLaq̣adCertainlyكَانَkaanawereفِيfeeinيُوسُفَyoosufaYusufوَإِخۡوَتِهِۦٓwa-ʹikhwatiheeand his brothersءَايَٰتٞʹAayaatulsignsلِّلسَّآئِلِينَlissaaaʹileen.for those who ask٧
12:8إِذۡʹIẓWhenقَالُواْq̣aaloothey saidلَيُوسُفُla-YoosufuSurely Yusufوَأَخُوهُwa-ʹakhoohuand his brotherأَحَبُّʹaḥabbu(are) more belovedإِلَىٰٓʹilaaatoأَبِينَاʹabeenaaour fatherمِنَّاminnaathan weوَنَحۡنُwa-naḥnuwhile weعُصۡبَةٌʻuṣbah!(are) a groupإِنَّʹInnaIndeedأَبَانَاʹabaanaaour fatherلَفِيlafee(is) surely inضَلَٰلٖḍalaaliman errorمُّبِينٍmubeen!clear٨
12:9ٱقۡتُلُواْʹUq̣tulooKillيُوسُفَYoosufaYusufأَوِʹawiṭraorٱطۡرَحُوهُḥoohucast himأَرۡضٗاʹarḍañy(to) a landيَخۡلُyakhluso will be freeلَكُمۡlakumfor youوَجۡهُwajhu(the) faceأَبِيكُمۡʹabeekum(of) your fatherوَتَكُونُواْwa-takoonooand you will beمِنۢmimafter thatبَعۡدِهِۦbaʻdiheeafter thatقَوۡمٗاq̣awmaña peopleصَٰلِحِينَṣaaliḥeen!righteous٩
12:10قَالَQ̣aalaSaidقَآئِلٞq̣aaaʹiluma speakerمِّنۡهُمۡminhumamong themلَاlaa-(Do) notتَقۡتُلُواْtaq̣tulookillيُوسُفَYoosufaYusufوَأَلۡقُوهُwa-ʹalq̣oohubut throw himفِيfeeinغَيَٰبَتِg̣ayaabatilthe bottomٱلۡجُبِّjubbi(of) the wellيَلۡتَقِطۡهُyaltaq̣iṭhuwill pick himبَعۡضُbaʻḍussomeٱلسَّيَّارَةِsay-yaarati[the] caravanإِنʹiñifكُنتُمۡkuñtumyou areفَٰعِلِينَfaa-ʻileen.doing١٠
12:11قَالُواْQ̣aalooThey saidيَٰٓأَبَانَاyaaaʹabaanaaO our fatherمَاmaa-Whyلَكَlaka(do) youلَاlaa-notتَأۡمَ۬نَّاtaʹmannaatrust usعَلَىٰʻalaawithيُوسُفَYoosufaYusufوَإِنَّاwa-ʹinnaawhile indeed weلَهُۥlahoo(are) for himلَنَٰصِحُونَlanaaṣiḥoon?surely well-wishers١١
12:12أَرۡسِلۡهُʹArsilhuSend himمَعَنَاmaʻanaawith usغَدٗاg̣adañytomorrowيَرۡتَعۡyartaʻwa-(to) enjoyوَيَلۡعَبۡyalʻaband playوَإِنَّاwa-ʹinnaaAnd indeed weلَهُۥlahoofor himلَحَٰفِظُونَlaḥaafiz̤̣oon.(will) surely (be) guardians١٢
12:13قَالَQ̣aalaHe saidإِنِّيʹinneeIndeed [I]لَيَحۡزُنُنِيٓlayaḥzununeeeit surely saddens meأَنʹañthatتَذۡهَبُواْtaẓhabooyou should take himبِهِۦbiheeyou should take himوَأَخَافُwa-ʹakhaafuand I fearأَنʹañythatيَأۡكُلَهُyaʹkulahuẓwould eat himٱلذِّئۡبُẓiʹbua wolfوَأَنتُمۡwa-ʹañtumwhile youعَنۡهُʻanhuof himغَٰفِلُونَg̣aafiloon.(are) unaware١٣
12:14قَالُواْQ̣aalooThey saidلَئِنۡlaʹinIfأَكَلَهُʹakalahuẓeats himٱلذِّئۡبُẓiʹbuthe wolfوَنَحۡنُwa-naḥnuwhile weعُصۡبَةٌʻuṣbatun(are) a groupإِنَّآʹinnaaaindeed weإِذٗاʹiẓalthenلَّخَٰسِرُونَlakhaasiroon!surely (would be) losers١٤
12:15فَلَمَّاFalammaaSo whenذَهَبُواْẓahaboothey took himبِهِۦbiheethey took himوَأَجۡمَعُوٓاْwa-ʹajmaʻoooand agreedأَنʹañythatيَجۡعَلُوهُyajʻaloohuthey put himفِيfeeinغَيَٰبَتِg̣ayaabatil(the) bottomٱلۡجُبِّۚjubb:(of) the wellوَأَوۡحَيۡنَآwa-ʹawḥaynaaaBut We inspiredإِلَيۡهِʹilayhito himلَتُنَبِّئَنَّهُمlatunabbiʹannahum̃Surely you will inform themبِأَمۡرِهِمۡbiʹamrihimabout this affairهَٰذَاhaaẓaaabout this affairوَهُمۡwahumwhile theyلَاlaa-(do) notيَشۡعُرُونَyashʻuroon.perceive١٥
12:16وَجَآءُوٓWa-jaaaʹoooAnd they cameأَبَاهُمۡʹabaahum(to) their fatherعِشَآءٗʻishaaaʹañyearly at nightيَبۡكُونَyabkoon.weeping١٦
12:17قَالُواْQ̣aalooThey saidيَٰٓأَبَانَآyaaaʹabaanaaaO our fatherإِنَّاʹinnaaIndeed weذَهَبۡنَاẓahabnaa[we] wentنَسۡتَبِقُnastabiq̣uracing each otherوَتَرَكۡنَاwa-taraknaaand we leftيُوسُفَYoosufaYusufعِندَʻiñdawithمَتَٰعِنَاmataaʻinaaour possessionsفَأَكَلَهُfaʹakalahuẓand ate himٱلذِّئۡبُۖẓiʹb.the wolfوَمَآWa-maaaBut notأَنتَʹañtayouبِمُؤۡمِنٖbimuʹminil(will) believeلَّنَاlanaausوَلَوۡwa-laweven ifكُنَّاkunnaawe areصَٰدِقِينَṣaadiq̣een.truthful١٧
12:18وَجَآءُوWa-jaaaʹooAnd they broughtعَلَىٰʻalaauponقَمِيصِهِۦq̣ameeṣiheehis shirtبِدَمٖbidamiñwith false bloodكَذِبٖۚkaẓib.with false bloodقَالَQ̣aalaHe saidبَلۡbalNayسَوَّلَتۡsawwalathas enticed youلَكُمۡlakumhas enticed youأَنفُسُكُمۡʹañfusukumyour soulsأَمۡرٗاۖʹamraa.(to) a matterفَصَبۡرٞFaṣabruñso patienceجَمِيلٞۖjameel:(is) beautifulوَٱللَّهُwallaahulAnd AllahٱلۡمُسۡتَعَانُMustaʻaanu(is) the One sought for helpعَلَىٰʻalaaagainstمَاmaa-whatتَصِفُونَtaṣifoon.you describe١٨
12:19وَجَآءَتۡWa-jaaaʹatAnd there cameسَيَّارَةٞsayyaaratuña caravanفَأَرۡسَلُواْfaʹarsalooand they sentوَارِدَهُمۡwaaridahumtheir water drawerفَأَدۡلَىٰfaʹadlaathen he let downدَلۡوَهُۥۖdalwah.his bucketقَالَQ̣aalaHe saidيَٰبُشۡرَىٰyaa-bushraaO good newsهَٰذَاhaaẓaaThisغُلَٰمٞۚg̣ulaam!(is) a boyوَأَسَرُّوهُWa-ʹasarroohuAnd they hid himبِضَٰعَةٗۚbiḍaaʻah!(as) a merchandiseوَٱللَّهُWallaahuAnd Allahعَلِيمُۢʻaleemum(is) All-Knowerبِمَاbimaaof whatيَعۡمَلُونَyaʻmaloon!they do١٩
12:20وَشَرَوۡهُWa-sharawhuAnd they sold himبِثَمَنِۭbis̤amanimfor a priceبَخۡسٖbakhsiñvery lowدَرَٰهِمَdaraahimadirhamsمَعۡدُودَةٖmaʻdoodah:fewوَكَانُواْwa-kaanooand they wereفِيهِfeehiabout himمِنَminazofٱلزَّٰهِدِينَzaahideen!those keen to give up٢٠
12:21وَقَالَWa-q̣aalalAnd saidٱلَّذِيlaẓishthe one whoٱشۡتَرَىٰهُtaraahubought himمِنmimofمِّصۡرَMiṣraEgyptلِٱمۡرَأَتِهِۦٓlimraʹatiheeeto his wifeأَكۡرِمِيʹakrimeeMake comfortableمَثۡوَىٰهُmas̤waahuhis stayعَسَىٰٓʻasaaaPerhapsأَنʹañythatيَنفَعَنَآyañfaʻanaaa(he) will benefit usأَوۡʹaworنَتَّخِذَهُۥnattakhiẓahoowe will take himوَلَدٗاۚwaladaa.(as) a sonوَكَذَٰلِكَWa-kaẓaalikaAnd thusمَكَّنَّاmak-kannaaWe establishedلِيُوسُفَli-YoosufaYusufفِيfilinٱلۡأَرۡضِʹarḍi,the landوَلِنُعَلِّمَهُۥwa-linuʻallimahoothat We might teach himمِنmiñ(the) interpretation ofتَأۡوِيلِtaʹweelil(the) interpretation ofٱلۡأَحَادِيثِۚʹaḥaadees̤.the eventsوَٱللَّهُWallaahuAnd Allahغَالِبٌg̣aalibun(is) PredominantعَلَىٰٓʻalaaaoverأَمۡرِهِۦʹamriheeHis affairsوَلَٰكِنَّwa-laakinnabutأَكۡثَرَʹaks̤aranmostٱلنَّاسِnaasi(of) the peopleلَاlaa(do) notيَعۡلَمُونَyaʻlamoon.know٢١
12:22وَلَمَّاWa-lammaaAnd whenبَلَغَbalag̣ahe reachedأَشُدَّهُۥٓʹashuddahooohis maturityءَاتَيۡنَٰهُʹaataynaahuWe gave himحُكۡمٗاḥukmañwwisdomوَعِلۡمٗاۚwaʻilmaa:and knowledgeوَكَذَٰلِكَwa-kaẓaalikaAnd thusنَجۡزِيnajzilWe rewardٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَMuḥsineen.the good-doers٢٢
12:23وَرَٰوَدَتۡهُWa-raawadat-hulAnd sought to seduce himٱلَّتِيlateeshe whoهُوَhuwahe (was)فِيfeeinبَيۡتِهَاbaytihaaher houseعَنʻanfromنَّفۡسِهِۦnafsiheehis selfوَغَلَّقَتِwa-g̣allaq̣atilAnd she closedٱلۡأَبۡوَٰبَʹabwaabathe doorsوَقَالَتۡwa-q̣aalatand she saidهَيۡتَhaytaCome onلَكَۚlak!youقَالَQ̣aalaHe saidمَعَاذَmaʻaaẓalI seek refuge in AllahٱللَّهِۖlaahiI seek refuge in AllahإِنَّهُۥʹinnahooIndeed heرَبِّيٓrabbeee(is) my lordأَحۡسَنَʹaḥsana(who has) made goodمَثۡوَايَۖmas̤waay!my stayإِنَّهُۥInnahooIndeedلَاlaa-notيُفۡلِحُyufliḥuz̤̣will succeedٱلظَّٰلِمُونَz̤̣aalimoon!the wrongdoers٢٣
12:24وَلَقَدۡWa-laq̣adAnd certainlyهَمَّتۡhammatshe did desireبِهِۦۖbiheehimوَهَمَّwa-hammaand he would have desiredبِهَاbihaaherلَوۡلَآlaaa-lawif notأَنʹarthatرَّءَاraʹaahe sawبُرۡهَٰنَburhaanathe proofرَبِّهِۦۚRabbih:(of) his LordكَذَٰلِكَKaẓaalikaThusلِنَصۡرِفَlinaṣrifathat We might avertعَنۡهُʻanhusfrom himٱلسُّوٓءَsoooʹathe evilوَٱلۡفَحۡشَآءَۚwal-faḥshaaaʹ:and the immoralityإِنَّهُۥʹinnahooIndeed heمِنۡmin(was) ofعِبَادِنَاʻibaadinalOur slavesٱلۡمُخۡلَصِينَMukhlaṣeen.the sincere٢٤
12:25وَٱسۡتَبَقَاWastabaq̣alAnd they both racedٱلۡبَابَbaaba(to) the doorوَقَدَّتۡwa-q̣addatand she toreقَمِيصَهُۥq̣ameeṣahoohis shirtمِنmiñfromدُبُرٖduburiñwthe backوَأَلۡفَيَاwaʹalfayaaand they both foundسَيِّدَهَاsayyidahaaher husbandلَدَاladalatٱلۡبَابِۚbaab.the doorقَالَتۡQ̣aalatShe saidمَاmaa-Whatجَزَآءُjazaaaʹu(is) the recompenseمَنۡman(of one) whoأَرَادَʹaraadaintendedبِأَهۡلِكَbiʹahlikafor your wifeسُوٓءًاsoooʹanevilإِلَّآʹillaaaexceptأَنʹañythatيُسۡجَنَyusjanahe be imprisonedأَوۡʹaworعَذَابٌʻaẓaabuna punishmentأَلِيمٞʹaleem?painful٢٥
12:26قَالَQ̣aalaHe saidهِيَhiyaSheرَٰوَدَتۡنِيraawadatneesought to seduce meعَنʻanaboutنَّفۡسِيۚnafseemyselfوَشَهِدَwa-shahidaAnd testifiedشَاهِدٞshaahiduma witnessمِّنۡminofأَهۡلِهَآʹahlihaa:her familyإِنʹiñIfكَانَkaana[is]قَمِيصُهُۥq̣ameeṣuhoohis shirtقُدَّq̣udda(is) tornمِنmiñfromقُبُلٖq̣ubuliñthe frontفَصَدَقَتۡfaṣadaq̣atthen she has spoken the truthوَهُوَwa-huwaand heمِنَminal(is) ofٱلۡكَٰذِبِينَkaaẓibeen!the liars٢٦
12:27وَإِنWa-ʹiñBut ifكَانَkaana[is]قَمِيصُهُۥq̣ameeṣuhoohis shirtقُدَّq̣udda(is) tornمِنmiñfromدُبُرٖduburiñ(the) backفَكَذَبَتۡfakaẓabatthen she has liedوَهُوَwa-huwaand heمِنَminaṣ(is) ofٱلصَّٰدِقِينَṣaadiq̣een!the truthful٢٧
12:28فَلَمَّاFalammaaSo whenرَءَاraʹaahe sawقَمِيصَهُۥq̣ameeṣahoohis shirtقُدَّq̣uddatornمِنmiñfromدُبُرٖduburiñ(the) backقَالَq̣aalahe saidإِنَّهُۥʹinnahooIndeed itمِنmiñ(is) ofكَيۡدِكُنَّۖkaydikunna!your plotإِنَّʹInnaIndeedكَيۡدَكُنَّkaydakunnayour plotعَظِيمٞʻaz̤̣eem!(is) great٢٨
12:29يُوسُفُYoosufuYusufأَعۡرِضۡʹaʻriḍturn awayعَنۡʻanfromهَٰذَاۚhaaẓaathisوَٱسۡتَغۡفِرِيwastag̣fireeAnd ask forgivenessلِذَنۢبِكِۖliẓambikifor your sinإِنَّكِʹinnakiIndeed youكُنتِkuñtiareمِنَminalofٱلۡخَاطِـِٔينَkhaaṭiʹeen!the sinful٢٩
12:30۞وَقَالَWa-q̣aalaAnd saidنِسۡوَةٞniswatuñwomenفِيfilinٱلۡمَدِينَةِMadeenatimthe cityٱمۡرَأَتُraʹatulThe wife ofٱلۡعَزِيزِʻAzeeziAzizتُرَٰوِدُturaawidu(is) seeking to seduceفَتَىٰهَاfataahaaher slave boyعَنʻanaboutنَّفۡسِهِۦۖnafsih:himselfقَدۡq̣adindeedشَغَفَهَاshag̣afahaahe has impassioned herحُبًّاۖḥubbaa:(with) loveإِنَّاʹinnaaIndeed weلَنَرَىٰهَاlanaraahaa[we] surely see herفِيfeeinضَلَٰلٖḍalaaliman errorمُّبِينٖmubeen.clear٣٠
12:31فَلَمَّاFalammaaSo whenسَمِعَتۡsamiʻatshe heardبِمَكۡرِهِنَّbimakrihinnaof their schemingأَرۡسَلَتۡʹarsalatshe sentإِلَيۡهِنَّʹilayhinnafor themوَأَعۡتَدَتۡwa-ʹaʻtadatand she preparedلَهُنَّlahunnafor themمُتَّكَـٔٗاmuttakaʹañwa banquetوَءَاتَتۡwaʹaatatand she gaveكُلَّkullaeachوَٰحِدَةٖwaaḥidatimoneمِّنۡهُنَّmin-hunnaof themسِكِّينٗاsikkeenañwa knifeوَقَالَتِwaq̣aalatikhand she saidٱخۡرُجۡrujCome outعَلَيۡهِنَّۖʻalayhinn.before themفَلَمَّاFalammaaThen whenرَأَيۡنَهُۥٓraʹaynahooothey saw himأَكۡبَرۡنَهُۥʹakbarnahoothey greatly admired himوَقَطَّعۡنَwa-q̣aṭṭaʻnaand cutأَيۡدِيَهُنَّʹaydiyahunnatheir handsوَقُلۡنَwa-q̣ulnathey saidحَٰشَḥaashaForbidلِلَّهِlillaahiAllahمَاmaa-notهَٰذَاhaaẓaa(is) thisبَشَرًاbasharaa!a manإِنۡʹInnotهَٰذَآhaaẓaaa(is) thisإِلَّاʹillaabutمَلَكٞmalakuñan angelكَرِيمٞkareem!noble٣١
12:32قَالَتۡQ̣aalatShe saidفَذَٰلِكُنَّfaẓaalikunnalThatٱلَّذِيlaẓee(is) the oneلُمۡتُنَّنِيlumtunnaneeyou blamed meفِيهِۖfeeh!about himوَلَقَدۡWa-laq̣adAnd certainlyرَٰوَدتُّهُۥraawattuhooI sought to seduce himعَنʻan[from]نَّفۡسِهِۦnafsihee[himself]فَٱسۡتَعۡصَمَۖfastaʻṣam!but he saved himselfوَلَئِنWa-laʹiland ifلَّمۡlamnotيَفۡعَلۡyafʻalhe doesمَآmaaawhatءَامُرُهُۥʹaamuruhooI order himلَيُسۡجَنَنَّlayusjanannasurely he will be imprisonedوَلَيَكُونٗاwa-layakoonamand certainly will beمِّنَminaṣofٱلصَّٰغِرِينَṣaag̣ireen!those who are disgraced٣٢
12:33قَالَQ̣aalaHe saidرَبِّRabbisMy Lordٱلسِّجۡنُsijnuthe prisonأَحَبُّʹaḥabbu(is) dearerإِلَيَّʹilayyato meمِمَّاmimmaathan whatيَدۡعُونَنِيٓyadʻoonaneeethey invite meإِلَيۡهِۖʹilayh:to itوَإِلَّاwa-ʹillaaAnd unlessتَصۡرِفۡtaṣrifYou turn awayعَنِّيʻanneefrom meكَيۡدَهُنَّkaydahunnatheir plotأَصۡبُʹaṣbuI might inclineإِلَيۡهِنَّʹilayhinnatowards themوَأَكُنwa-ʹakumand [I] beمِّنَminalofٱلۡجَٰهِلِينَjaahileen.the ignorant٣٣
12:34فَٱسۡتَجَابَFastajaabaSo respondedلَهُۥlahooto himرَبُّهُۥRabbuhoohis Lordفَصَرَفَfaṣarafaand turned awayعَنۡهُʻanhufrom himكَيۡدَهُنَّۚkaydahunn:their plotإِنَّهُۥʹinnahooIndeed [He]هُوَHuwasHeٱلسَّمِيعُSameeʻul(is) All-HearerٱلۡعَلِيمُʻAleem.All-Knower٣٤
12:35ثُمَّS̤ummaThenبَدَاbadaa(it) appearedلَهُمlahumto themمِّنۢmimafterبَعۡدِbaʻdiafterمَاmaa-[what]رَأَوُاْraʹawulthey had seenٱلۡأٓيَٰتِʹAayaatithe signsلَيَسۡجُنُنَّهُۥlayasjununnahoosurely they should imprison himحَتَّىٰḥattaauntilحِينٖḥeen.a time٣٥
12:36وَدَخَلَWa-dakhalaAnd enteredمَعَهُmaʻawith himٱلسِّجۡنَhussijna(in) the prisonفَتَيَانِۖfatayaan.two young menقَالَQ̣aalaSaidأَحَدُهُمَآʹaḥaduhumaaaone of themإِنِّيٓʹinneeeIndeed Iأَرَىٰنِيٓʹaraaneee[I] see myselfأَعۡصِرُʹaʻṣirupressingخَمۡرٗاۖkhamraa.wineوَقَالَWa-q̣aalalAnd saidٱلۡأٓخَرُʹaakharuthe otherإِنِّيٓʹinneeeIndeed Iأَرَىٰنِيٓʹaraaneee[I] see myselfأَحۡمِلُʹaḥmilu[I am] carryingفَوۡقَfawq̣aoverرَأۡسِيraʹseemy headخُبۡزٗاkhubzañbreadتَأۡكُلُtaʹkuluṭ(were) eatingٱلطَّيۡرُṭayruthe birdsمِنۡهُۖminh.from itنَبِّئۡنَاNabbiʹnaaInform usبِتَأۡوِيلِهِۦٓۖbitaʹweelih:of its interpretationإِنَّاʹinnaaindeed weنَرَىٰكَnaraaka[we] see youمِنَminalofٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَMuḥsineen.the good-doers٣٦
12:37قَالَQ̣aalaHe saidلَاlaa-Notيَأۡتِيكُمَاyaʹteekumaa(will) come to both of youطَعَامٞṭaʻaamuñfoodتُرۡزَقَانِهِۦٓturzaq̣aaniheeeyou are provided withإِلَّاʹillaabutنَبَّأۡتُكُمَاnabbaʹtukumaaI will inform both of youبِتَأۡوِيلِهِۦbitaʹweeliheeof its interpretationقَبۡلَq̣ablabeforeأَنʹañy[that]يَأۡتِيَكُمَاۚyaʹtiyakumaa:[it] comes to both of youذَٰلِكُمَاẓaalikumaaThatمِمَّاmimmaa(is) of whatعَلَّمَنِيʻallamaneehas taught meرَبِّيٓۚRabbee.my LordإِنِّيʹInneeIndeed Iتَرَكۡتُtaraktu[I] abandonمِلَّةَmillata(the) religionقَوۡمٖq̣awmil(of) a peopleلَّاlaanotيُؤۡمِنُونَyuʹminoonathey believeبِٱللَّهِbillaahiin Allahوَهُمwa-hum̃and theyبِٱلۡأٓخِرَةِbil-ʹAakhiratiin the Hereafterهُمۡhum[they]كَٰفِرُونَkaafiroon.(are) disbelievers٣٧
12:38وَٱتَّبَعۡتُWattabaʻtuAnd I followمِلَّةَMillata(the) religionءَابَآءِيٓʹaabaaaʹeee(of) my forefathersإِبۡرَٰهِيمَʹIbraaheemaIbrahimوَإِسۡحَٰقَwa-ʹIsḥaaq̣aand Isaacوَيَعۡقُوبَۚwa-Yaʻq̣oob;and Yaqubمَاmaa-Notكَانَkaanawasلَنَآlanaaafor usأَنʹanthatنُّشۡرِكَnushrikawe associateبِٱللَّهِbillaahiwith Allahمِنmiñanyشَيۡءٖۚshayʹ:thingذَٰلِكَẓaalikaThatمِنmiñ(is) fromفَضۡلِfaḍlil(the) Graceٱللَّهِlaahi(of) Allahعَلَيۡنَاʻalaynaaupon usوَعَلَىwa-ʻalanand uponٱلنَّاسِnaasithe mankindوَلَٰكِنَّwa-laakinnabutأَكۡثَرَʹaks̤aranmostٱلنَّاسِnaasi(of) the menلَاlaa-(are) notيَشۡكُرُونَyashkuroon.grateful٣٨
12:39يَٰصَٰحِبَيِYaa-ṣaaḥibayisO my two companionsٱلسِّجۡنِsijni(of) the prisonءَأَرۡبَابٞʹaʹarbaabumAre lordsمُّتَفَرِّقُونَmutafarriq̣oonaseparateخَيۡرٌkhayrunbetterأَمِʹamilorٱللَّهُlaahulAllahٱلۡوَٰحِدُWaaḥidulthe OneٱلۡقَهَّارُQ̣ahhaar?the Irresistible٣٩
12:40مَاMaa-Notتَعۡبُدُونَtaʻbudoonayou worshipمِنmiñbesides Himدُونِهِۦٓdooniheeebesides Himإِلَّآʹillaaabutأَسۡمَآءٗʹasmaaaʹañnamesسَمَّيۡتُمُوهَآsammaytumoohaaawhich you have named themأَنتُمۡʹañtumyouوَءَابَآؤُكُمwa-ʹaabaaaʹukumand your forefathersمَّآmaaanotأَنزَلَʹañzalal(has) sent downٱللَّهُlaahuAllahبِهَاbihaafor itمِنmiñanyسُلۡطَٰنٍۚsulṭaan:authorityإِنِʹinilNotٱلۡحُكۡمُḤukmu(is) the commandإِلَّاʹillaabutلِلَّهِlillaah:for AllahأَمَرَʹamaraHe has commandedأَلَّاʹallaathat notتَعۡبُدُوٓاْtaʻbudoooyou worshipإِلَّآʹillaaabutإِيَّاهُۚʹiyyaah:Him AloneذَٰلِكَẓaalikadThatٱلدِّينُDeenul(is) the religionٱلۡقَيِّمُQ̣ayyimuthe rightوَلَٰكِنَّwa-laakinnabutأَكۡثَرَʹaks̤aranmostٱلنَّاسِnaasi[the] menلَاlaa-(do) notيَعۡلَمُونَyaʻlamoon.know٤٠
12:41يَٰصَٰحِبَيِYaa-ṣaaḥibayisO my two companionsٱلسِّجۡنِsijni(of) the prisonأَمَّآʹammaaaAs forأَحَدُكُمَاʹaḥadukumaaone of youفَيَسۡقِيfayasq̣eehe will give drinkرَبَّهُۥrabbahoo(to) his masterخَمۡرٗاۖkhamraa:wineوَأَمَّاwa-ʹammaland as forٱلۡأٓخَرُʹaakharuthe otherفَيُصۡلَبُfayuṣlabuhe will be crucifiedفَتَأۡكُلُfataʹkuluṭand will eatٱلطَّيۡرُṭayruthe birdsمِنmirfromرَّأۡسِهِۦۚraʹsih.his headقُضِيَQ̣uḍiyalHas been decreedٱلۡأَمۡرُʹamrulthe matterٱلَّذِيlaẓeeabout whichفِيهِfeehiabout whichتَسۡتَفۡتِيَانِtastaftiyaan.you both inquire٤١
12:42وَقَالَWa-q̣aalaAnd he saidلِلَّذِيlillaẓeeto the one whomظَنَّz̤̣annahe thoughtأَنَّهُۥʹannahoothat heنَاجٖnaajim(would be) savedمِّنۡهُمَاminhumaẓof both of themٱذۡكُرۡنِيkurneeMention meعِندَʻiñdatoرَبِّكَrabbik.your masterفَأَنسَىٰهُFaʹañsaahushBut made him forgetٱلشَّيۡطَٰنُShayṭaanuthe Shaitaanذِكۡرَẓikra(the) mentionرَبِّهِۦrabbihee(to) his masterفَلَبِثَfalabis̤aso he remainedفِيfisinٱلسِّجۡنِsijnithe prisonبِضۡعَbiḍʻaseveralسِنِينَsineen.years٤٢
12:43وَقَالَWa-q̣aalalAnd saidٱلۡمَلِكُmalikuthe kingإِنِّيٓʹinneeeIndeed Iأَرَىٰʹaraa[I] have seenسَبۡعَsabʻasevenبَقَرَٰتٖbaq̣araatiñcowsسِمَانٖsimaaniñyfatيَأۡكُلُهُنَّyaʹkuluhunnaeating themسَبۡعٌsabʻunsevenعِجَافٞʻijaafuñwlean onesوَسَبۡعَWasabʻaand sevenسُنۢبُلَٰتٍsumbulaatinears (of corn)خُضۡرٖkhuḍriñwgreenوَأُخَرَwaʹukharaand othersيَابِسَٰتٖۖyaabisaat.dryيَٰٓأَيُّهَاYaaaʹayyuhalOٱلۡمَلَأُmalaʹuchiefsأَفۡتُونِيʹaftooneeExplain to meفِيfeeaboutرُءۡيَٰيَruʹyaayamy visionإِنʹiñifكُنتُمۡkuñtumyou canلِلرُّءۡيَاlirruʹyaaof visionsتَعۡبُرُونَtaʻburoon.interpret٤٣
12:44قَالُوٓاْQ̣aaloooThey saidأَضۡغَٰثُʹaḍg̣aas̤uConfusedأَحۡلَٰمٖۖʹaḥlaam:dreamsوَمَاWa-maaand notنَحۡنُnaḥnuweبِتَأۡوِيلِbitaʹweelil(are) in the interpretationٱلۡأَحۡلَٰمِʹaḥlaami(of) the dreamsبِعَٰلِمِينَbiʻaalimeen.learned٤٤
12:45وَقَالَWa-q̣aalalBut saidٱلَّذِيlaẓeethe one whoنَجَاnajaawas savedمِنۡهُمَاminhumaaof the twoوَٱدَّكَرَwaddakaraand rememberedبَعۡدَbaʻdaafterأُمَّةٍʹummatina periodأَنَا۠ʹanaIأُنَبِّئُكُمʹunabbiʹukum̃[I] will inform youبِتَأۡوِيلِهِۦbitaʹweeliheeof its interpretationفَأَرۡسِلُونِfaʹarsiloon.so send me forth٤٥
12:46يُوسُفُYoosufuYusufأَيُّهَاʹayyuhaṣOٱلصِّدِّيقُṢiddeeq̣uthe truthful oneأَفۡتِنَاʹaftinaaExplain to usفِيfeeaboutسَبۡعِsabʻi(the) sevenبَقَرَٰتٖbaq̣araatiñcowsسِمَانٖsimaaniñyfatيَأۡكُلُهُنَّyaʹkuluhunnaeating themسَبۡعٌsabʻunsevenعِجَافٞʻijaafuñwlean onesوَسَبۡعِWasabʻiand sevenسُنۢبُلَٰتٍsumbulaatinears (of corn)خُضۡرٖkhuḍriñwgreenوَأُخَرَwaʹukharaand otherيَابِسَٰتٖyaabisaatildryلَّعَلِّيٓlaʻalleeethat I mayأَرۡجِعُʹarjiʻureturnإِلَىʹilantoٱلنَّاسِnaasithe peopleلَعَلَّهُمۡlaʻallahumso that they mayيَعۡلَمُونَyaʻlamoon.know٤٦
12:47قَالَQ̣aalaHe saidتَزۡرَعُونَtazraʻoonaYou will sowسَبۡعَsabʻa(for) sevenسِنِينَsineenayearsدَأَبٗاdaʹabaa:as usualفَمَاfamaaand that whichحَصَدتُّمۡḥaṣattumyou reapفَذَرُوهُfaẓaroohuso leave itفِيfeeinسُنۢبُلِهِۦٓsumbuliheeeits earsإِلَّاʹillaaexceptقَلِيلٗاq̣aleelama littleمِّمَّاmimmaafrom whichتَأۡكُلُونَtaʹkuloon.you (will) eat٤٧
12:48ثُمَّS̤ummaThenيَأۡتِيyaʹteewill comeمِنۢmimafterبَعۡدِbaʻdiafterذَٰلِكَẓaalikathatسَبۡعٞsabʻuñsevenشِدَادٞshidaaduñyhard (years)يَأۡكُلۡنَyaʹkulna(which will) consumeمَاmaa-whatقَدَّمۡتُمۡq̣addamtumyou advancedلَهُنَّlahunnafor themإِلَّاʹillaaexceptقَلِيلٗاq̣aleelama littleمِّمَّاmimmaaof whatتُحۡصِنُونَtuḥṣinoon.you (will) store٤٨
12:49ثُمَّS̤ummaThenيَأۡتِيyaʹteewill comeمِنۢmimafterبَعۡدِbaʻdiafterذَٰلِكَẓaalikathatعَامٞʻaamuña yearفِيهِfeehiin itيُغَاثُyug̣aas̤unwill be given abundant rainٱلنَّاسُnaasuthe peopleوَفِيهِwa-feehiand in itيَعۡصِرُونَyaʻṣiroon.they will press٤٩
12:50وَقَالَWa-q̣aalalAnd saidٱلۡمَلِكُmalikuʹthe kingٱئۡتُونِيtooneeBring him to meبِهِۦۖbih.Bring him to meفَلَمَّاFalammaaBut whenجَآءَهُjaaaʹahurcame to himٱلرَّسُولُrasooluthe messengerقَالَq̣aalarhe saidٱرۡجِعۡjiʻReturnإِلَىٰʹilaatoرَبِّكَrabbikayour lordفَسۡـَٔلۡهُfasʹalhuand ask himمَاmaa-whatبَالُbaalun(is the) caseٱلنِّسۡوَةِniswatil(of) the womenٱلَّٰتِيlaateewhoقَطَّعۡنَq̣aṭṭaʻnacutأَيۡدِيَهُنَّۚʹaydiyahunn?their handsإِنَّʹInnaIndeedرَبِّيRabbeemy Lordبِكَيۡدِهِنَّbikaydihinnaof their plotعَلِيمٞʻAleem.(is) All-Knower٥٠
